David Mark has urged the president – elect, Mohammadu Buhari, to make the unity of Nigeria a top priority if he wants to succeed in his coming administration.
The senate president, according to The Nation, also noted that the welfare and security of Nigerians must take precedence over every other interests be it ethnic, religious or political differences.
According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, Mark gave this counsel in Abuja at a thanksgiving Mass ahead of the end of the 7th Senate at St. Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy.
The senate president who spoke about his 16 years in the senate and eight years as a senate president ascribed his success in politics to divine intervention.
He said: “My 16 years in the Senate and eight years as the President of the Senate is the Lord’s doing, not by my own wisdom, power, intelligence or fame and influence.”
On why genuine reconciliation was necessary to move the nation forward, he said pursuing such a course would assuage the feelings of some aggrieved persons from all sections of the country.
With the All Progressives Congress (APC) now dominating the senate, David Mark and other senators under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have lost out on the privilege of producing the senate president.
