China will offer 20 million Australian dollars (approx. 14.5 million US dollars) to help the ongoing search operation of the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang made the announcement while meeting Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
Flight MH370, a Boeing 777 aircraft with 239 people on board, disappeared without a trace en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur on March 8, 2014. Many Chinese nationals were on board that airplane.
Australia has been leading the search mission of the plane in the Indian Ocean, but there have been no outcomes yet.
The only debris confirmed to be linked to the missing aircraft was found in July – a flaperon from the aircraft’s wing was found on Reunion Island in the western Indian Ocean. The hunt of the missing plane is on its 18th month now.
