An 11-year-old Chinese boy has skipped into global spotlight and social media stardom after he set a new world record for jumping rope. Cen Xiaolin broke two world records of jumping rope with 216 skips in 30 seconds, i.e., 7.3 skips per second, and 548 skips in 3 minutes during the World Inter School Rope Skipping Championships in Dubai late last month.
The official number of skips recorded, however, was 108 in 30 seconds, as the contest only accounts for the lifting of the right leg. Such was the speed and ferocity of Cen’s performance that the eight international referees could not believe their eyes. In fact, the replayed the videos of his performances eight times before deciding that he indeed had shattered the existing records.
