Certain habits can really hurt your relationship. After the newness of a relationship wears off, these habits can even become commonplace or everyday to you. That’s not a good thing! But what is good is learning about habits that hurt your love life and stopping them before they do any damage.
1. PHUBBING
Phubbing is defined as snubbing someone in order to pay attention to your phone. This may be the most common bad habit when it comes to relationships. The main point you want to remember is to put your phone down when your guy is talking to you and hopefully he’ll take the hint and do the same.
2. CORRECTING EACH OTHER
Does it really matter which fun place you were at when you had the kooky waiter? If we aren’t careful, we can get into the habit of correcting our guy. This’s especially true if you’re a person that’s very detail oriented. Remind yourself to chill and let them tell the story. Your relationship is more important than the little stuff. 💏
3. MAN BASHING
This habit has several negative effects. First of all, it reflects poorly on your relationship. Second, it can really hurt your man if it gets back to him that you were bashing him. Third and most important of all, it can affect how you feel about your guy. Talking to someone about your relationship to get some advice or perspective is a totally different thing than man bashing though so no worries over that. 😊
4. COMPLAINING ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIP CONSTANTLY 😬
If you need to address an issue in your relationship, that’s one thing. But complaining and constantly making negative comments to your #man isn’t going to be helpful. Ask yourself what’s behind your complaints. If there’s something you want to be different in your relationship, talk about that. If you’re fussing just to fuss then that’s a habit that needs to go.
5. NEGLECTING THE SMALL RITUALS OF RELATIONSHIPS
After you’ve been in a relationship for awhile, it can become easy to neglect the small rituals such as holding hands, kissing 💋 goodbye or saying “I love you.” Don’t let those little rituals slip away! They’re magical! They keep your relationship fresh and the two of you close. If you notice that one of you is forgetting then work on it. And tell your guy how much you love that he does these things to let him know how important they are to you.
6. NEVER SAYING THANK YOU
This seems like such a small thing. Is it really a big deal? Yes, it is. Not using your manners in the small everyday happenings of your relationship reflects that you’re taking each other for granted. Make it a goal to always say thank you when your #partner does something for you. If you do this then he’ll more than likely be careful to make an effort, too.
7. TRYING TO CHANGE YOUR PARTNER
This happens. After you’re together awhile you may see some #things that you wish were different about each other. It can be very easy to get your focus on the few things you don’t like instead of all the things you love. Don’t let this happen to you. It steals your joy and is ineffective. No one can ever make another person change; you can inspire change but you can’t force it.
